Miniature and mechanical effects house Vision Crew Unlimited (VCU) has closed its doors. Company founders Evan Jacobs, Jon Warren and Doug Miller closed the company to pursue other interests, though, according to Jacobs, the slow economy played a part in the decision to shut down. "While the difficult business climate the entertainment industry as a whole has been experiencing was certainly a factor, it was not the deciding one," says a farewell message on the VCU Web site.

Jacobs will be directing, as well as doing stints as an independent VFX supervisor. Warren will continue to work in visual effects. Miller is working as a cinematographer. The three founded the company in 1994 and they were recognized in 1998 with an Emmy award nomination for their contribution to the visual effects work on the HBO miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon."
